August - Peridot
Meaning: Married Happiness
Ancient Romans dubbed the Peridot "the Emerald of the Evening," as it always kept its brilliant green luster even in dim light. Earliest records indicate Egyptians mining peridot on the island of Zebargad in the Red Sea. Traditionally, metaphysical properties associated with the peridot are fame, dignity and protection.
Lime green or olive in color, this birthstone is a by-product of volcanic action, and comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes. It’s also known as "chrysolite," "gold stone" and "olivine." However, it’s one of the few gemstones that come in only one color. And how golden green the gem is depends on the amount of iron found compounded in the stone.
Since peridot is found in abundance in Pakistan and Afghanistan, an ideal setting with diamonds or its sister emerald is perfect for a summer gift, complementing a light summer wardrobe.
